It has so many advantages over any other exterior protection systems that the minor disadvantage of incidental hairline cracks is insignificant. Stucco costs less per square foot than a medium priced carpet on your floor. The carpet will be replaced several times during the life of the building but stucco remains undisturbed and often will exceed your lifetime. Stucco is fire-resistant with a one (1) hour rating. Because of its mass, stucco resists passage of noise from nearby streets much more effectively than other finishes. It is low maintenance, only requiring powerwashing and minor cleaning every 4-5 years. It cannot be penetrated easily, such as siding. Contrary to belief, stucco does NOT allow water to pass through it – extensive testing shows that water is absorbed into about 1/8” of the surface of stucco only – leaving the remaining ½-3/4” of stucco unaffected by water. When choosing your exterior cladding product, ask yourself how long you want this product to perform. No exterior cladding will give you all of the above benefits, as economically, or for as long a period of time as stucco Alzner Masonry installs a 7/8” cementitious, traditional 3-coat stucco installation including Tyvek Stucco Wrap or Class D building paper as a moisture barrier, 18 gauge self-furred keymesh, all necessary galvanized flashings, a 3/8” stucco scratch coat, a 3/8” stucco brown coat followed by a 1/8” stucco colored and texture finish coat. As an upgrade, Alzner Masonry offers stucco with an acrylic finish. This is a premier stucco application and uses the best of both the stucco and acrylic worlds Wedgewood Park East. Application is performed as specified above to the brown coat and then is primed with an acrylic primer colored to the finish color selection. Finally, an acrylic finish coat is installed. This installation has many advantages. First, it presents noticeably less hairline cracks than a standard stucco installation because the acrylic finish is more flexible. Second, the wall surfaces will never appear wet after rain/snow like a stucco finish will. Finally, an acrylic finish can offer any color and a fine texture is easily achieved with color consistency.
